Job description

Perform reviews and assessments, as assigned, based on an in-depth understanding of established legal, regulatory and organisational documents, processes and guides, in the area of Electrical Instrumentation & Control 
 
Duties and Responsibilities
·      To ensure by assessment and analysis that licence applicants or holder in Electrical Engineering (HV and LV), Instrumentation and Control Systems, Construction practices, operation and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation and control systems, structures and components, Digital safety systems are in accordance with the NNR and international norms, standards and quality.
·      Demonstrated knowledge experience in the area of nuclear reactor instrumentation, controls and sensors and their integration into the design and operation of reactor systems.
·      Ensure through review and assessments that electrical structures, systems and components for nuclear systems comply with the codes and standards from specific bodies.
·      Experience in the design, installation and testing of large scale (complete systems) digital control and computer monitoring system upgrades at nuclear power plants. Types of upgrades include replacement of Turbine/Generator Control Systems with DCS platforms, process computer and cyber security.
·      Interpretation of modern instrumentation and control standards in nuclear industry.
·      Understanding of configuration management and engineering change control.
·      Experience in safety classifications.
·      Reviewing and ensuring the appropriateness of Instrumentation & Control for systems important to safety.
·      Knowledge of digital hardware and software components commonly used in digital I&C system platforms.
·      Performing a variety of complex digital I&C design engineering activities.
·      Establish which international acceptable methodologies on safety are applicable to the NNR and identify which aspects on safety standards internally at the NNR should be strengthened and to review and assess non-routine local and international generic safety issues related to the technology.  
·      Participate in national and international forums.
·      Represent organization in meetings with external stakeholders.
·      Create input into the development of regulatory standards, practices and guides

Minimum requirements

  • NQF level 8 in Electronic or Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 6 years in regulatory and/or professional experience
  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience related to instrumentation and control
