Job description

Perform reviews and assessments, as assigned, based on an in-depth understanding of established legal, regulatory and organisational documents, processes and guides, in the area

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Understanding of the relevant legislation governing the nuclear regulation industry in South Africa
  • Knowledge and experience related to:
o Condition management of civil structures of a nuclear power plant.
o  Application and use of the regulatory requirements, industry codes, and standards that are unique to civil structures, specifically ASME.
o  Reviewing and ensuring the appropriateness of preventative maintenance of civil structures.
  • Experience performing in a team-oriented environment with ability to communicate effectively, manage time independently, and work collaboratively with peers.
  • Based on advanced level of comprehension of established legal, regulatory and organisational documents, processes and guides required for assessment and review of technical submissions, conduct assessments as assigned, working independently or contribute to complex assessments.
  • Handle both simple and complex systems assessments
  • Provide input into the development of regulatory standards practices and guides
  • Participate in national and international forums
  • Represent organisation in meetings with external stakeholders
  • Participate in other work outside departmental as required
  • Focus on self-development relating to duties in order to contribute to the NNR capacity building
  • Mentoring of employees and interns
  • Deputise for the manager on request
  • Performance of audits and inspections
  • Meetings with team members for discussion and presentation with management

Minimum requirements

  • NQF level 8 in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years in regulatory and/or professional experience in the nuclear industry with qualifications in the Civil application of ASME standards
  • Experience in Geotech will be an added advantage
  • Contractor shall not engage in any activity, which may conflict with the interests of the NNR
